Student Assistance Program
During the upcoming school year, Kingman High School students will have the opportunity to participate in peer support groups. These voluntary support groups are a part of our Student Assistance Program. The goals of these groups are to increase students’ self-esteem, decision making, life skills, communication skills and problem solving strategies. It is our belief that in building these personal skills our students will be better equipped to effectively cope with the peer pressures, school related stress and other issues of concern. Peer Support Groups meet weekly and are scheduled so that students are only away from a class once every six weeks. Groups meet for one class period, and are considered a school activity so will be an excused absence. Facilitators are specially trained teachers, staff and community members. The training model is used by schools across the nation as part of the National Student Assistance Program. If you would like any further information or if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me to learn more about the program. Jane Himes 692-6446 KHS Student Assistance Program Coordinator.
